ANZAC Tribute – Sons Of The Southern Cross

Lest We Forget – Angela Small Music

Australia has a strong and proud history of War Service heroes. Many Australian men and women have bravely served in the Boer War, World War I (Where the ANZAC and the ANZAC Spirit was born), World War II, Korea and Vietnam.  I’d like to pay my respects to all ANZAC soldiers and families here through song.

The tribute song, The Sons Of The Southern Cross , celebrates Charles Fredrick Bosel, who was born Maryborough, 31st January 1891, into a large family of German migrants. Charles enlisted to fight in World War 1, in September 1915.

Charles was sent to Egypt first, then to the front line in France with the 15th Infantry Battalion. He was wounded in action near Boulogne, 16th October, 1916, and died in the Boulogne General Hospital, 26th October 1916. He was laid to rest far from friends and family, in the Boulogne Eastern Cemetery.

His story struck a chord when I was reading through family tree information. There are a great many documents and newspaper clippings detailing the times just before and after his enlisting, and death in France in 1916.

It is very humbling to look back at those who so selflessly gave their lives to guarantee the security and prosperity of future generations in this great country.

Dedicated to Charles Fredrick Bosel, my great, great uncle, and other family members who served in both World Wars.  Thank you for your service.
